Rachael Emous-Austin, Director
Landscape Architect
Rachael is an award-winning landscape designer and the co-director of Austin Design Works alongside her brother Matt. Rachael’s focus has recently been on the way the business operates and she has recently led the practice through a successful B-Corp verification process.
Rachael takes an approach to landscape design that enhances and works with nature and improves the well-being of people who live and work in the places she creates, such as the Museum in the Park in Stroud.
She supports her brother and architectural teams to make sure their designs are holistic and responsive to their landscape settings, a collaborative approach that makes Austin Design Works truly stand out.
Matthew Austin, Director
Architect
Matt has a wealth of experience working with historic buildings and a deep knowledge of traditional construction, low-carbon, and natural materials. He applies these to both new build and deep retrofit projects using Passivhaus as a guiding principle.
Matt’s approach to architecture places great emphasis on the process of design and having a meaningful understanding of why a project happens. He takes on the challenge of resolving people’s needs and aspirations and balances these with the constraints inherent in complex projects. He believes in designing buildings that function on both practical and emotional levels, creating healthy, comfortable, and inspiring spaces.
