Retrofit Fair a big success
We are proud to have sponsored and taken part in the retrofit event that took place in Stroud in early September, attracting a huge number of people interested in improving the energy efficiency of their homes, including our local MP Siobhan Baillie.
The model house made by David Austin was the central feature and discussion point, demonstrating measures to improve the fabric of a building pre and post 1920.
Austin Design Works had a stall, the atmosphere was bustling and busy and the questions constant. Matt Austin and Chloe Willis were on hand throughout the day alongside other consultants to help answer questions ranging from how to make one-room improvements, to whole-house retrofit. The property types varied from old Cotswold cottages with solid walls to mid-century houses with cavity walls: with all types, a solution was offered!
Rachael Austin who is co-chair of NailsworthCAN our local climate action network and the organisers of the event, helped in the production of publicity and information material as well as setting up and clearing away.
This was an ambitious event for a local community group to set up. Our MP Siobhan Baillie highlighted our event at Prime Ministers Question Time commending it as an exemplar for future retrofit fairs nationally. As a business, we are extremely proud to support our local Climate Action Network.
It is clear that there is a need for more government support and financial incentives to support retrofit and energy improvements to houses. People’s desire to improve energy use through improving the fabric of their buildings was equal to that of changing to a heat pump, adding solar panels or including mechanical heat recovery systems in their homes.
It was great being part of a fabric first service complimenting the systems providers, covering all the bases from renewables, heating systems, ventilation and the way we live in our home through buying A rated appliances.
