Garden Design

The process of garden design is a journey, undertaken in collaboration with our clients. We take a holistic approach that incorporates the unique history of your land and property with a deep understanding of the needs and identities of the people who use the space today.

We work with householders, businesses and organisations who want to look beyond the trends and off-the-shelf solutions to create a garden that is uniquely crafted. The aim is always to create not just a beautiful space, but a place that tells a story.

Bringing the past into the present

The starting point for all of our projects is a bit of historical research. Our knowledge of the history of garden design and architecture means we might be able to uncover some features of your space that you may not have been aware of. These include hidden vistas, rooms and focal points as well as historic planting schemes that can be incorporated into your design.

Sustainability at the heart of all decisions

Sustainability is incredibly important to us and when planning a garden we always seek to protect and enrich the natural environment. When choosing materials for your garden we will always look for options that are local, sustainable and have a low carbon footprint. If we decide to fell a tree, we will try to incorporate the wood from the tree into the new garden. Our gardens are also designed to become rich habitats for bees, butterflies and birds. Ask us about harvesting your rainwater too!

Telling stories of the present

The passions, identities and interests of the people who will be using the space have a profound impact on each design. The paths, steps and terraces that we create for you have a permanence and will become the mark that you add to the space. For example, for a Welsh client who had strong ties to their home country we decided to use slate, a typically Welsh material.

Grown-ups like to play too

Whether it’s relaxing in a hammock or gathering friends around a fire pit, we believe the magic of playing in the garden is equally important for adults. We encourage you allow your imagination to wonder a little and to see that childhood pleasures can still be enjoyed within a thoroughly grown-up garden.
