Deep Retrofit on 1920’s Home

We were tasked with modernising and completely updating this five-bedroom 1920’s house, to make it a light-filled spacious and functional family home, super-insulated and as energy efficient as possible.

This project challenged what could be achieved within the constraints of an existing building and pushed the boundaries of retrofit and renovation.

The building has been wrapped externally in a thick layer of insulation and clad in cedar shingles, integrating the house into the wooded hillside setting. Large expanses of uninterrupted glazing bring the building up-to-date and the result is a clean, contemporary home that maximises the views out across the valley, connecting the wider landscape into the living space.
